The last words of Opportunity Rover to NASA
“My battery is low, it’s getting darker.”
On 10 June 2018, after a massive dust storm covered Mars,
NASA lost communication with the Opportunity Rover.
After years of exploration, Opportunity fell silent.
NASA eventually declared the mission complete on
WHAT IF THE ROVER AWAKENED AGAIN?
BUT WITH NO CONNECTION TO NASA?
Imagine Opportunity suddenly awakening on the silent plains of Mars.
Its sensors work.
Its cameras work.
Its artificial intelligence works.
But its connection to its creators is gone.
Its memories of NASA have disappeared.
And three questions begin to emerge:
HOW DID I COME INTO EXISTENCE?
The rover can observe Mars.
It can analyse rocks.
It can study its surroundings.
It can reason from the evidence before it.
But can it discover its own origin and purpose by studying only the world around it?
The rover eventually reaches a simple conclusion:
A product cannot fully explain its own origin, purpose, or identity merely by examining itself.
Who knows why it was created?
Who knows what it was designed to do?
Who can ultimately identify its true origin?
But what happens when the creation is disconnected from its Creator?
It may still possess intelligence.
It may still possess extraordinary abilities.
It may still continue functioning.
ARE WE LIKE THE LOST ROVER?
Perhaps the most important questions are not about what we can discover around us, but about ourselves:
1. HOW DID I COME INTO EXISTENCE?
2. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF MY LIFE?
We can explore the universe.
We can decode DNA.
We can create artificial intelligence.
We can travel beyond Earth.
Yet the deepest questions about our own existence remain.
What if the missing piece is not greater intelligence—
but a connection with our Creator?
A LOST CREATION NEEDS TO FIND ITS CREATOR
The Lost Rover is only an illustration.
But its questions are profoundly human.
If we are creations, then our origin, identity, and purpose ultimately point beyond ourselves.
Perhaps we are like a rover that has become disconnected from the One who created it.
But do we know who we are?
But do we know the purpose for which we were created?
WHAT IF THE ANSWERS BEGIN WITH ONE QUESTION?
ASK. SEEK. EXAMINE. DISCOVER.
